Armed Forces Tribunal Principal Bench, New Delhi

The Principal Bench of the Armed Forces Tribunal sits at West Block-VIII, opposite Mohan Singh Market, Sector-I, R.K. Puram, New Delhi 110066. Nyaysaarathi Legal LLP appears there. Client meetings are held at the Kalkaji chambers, not inside the tribunal building.

What is filed at the Principal Bench

The Armed Forces Tribunal Act, 2007 gives the Tribunal power over service disputes of persons subject to the Army Act, 1950, the Navy Act, 1957, and the Air Force Act, 1950, and over appeals from courts-martial. At the Principal Bench the firm’s work typically includes:

  • Disability pension and broad-banding, including Medical Board and attributability disputes
  • Special and liberalised family pension for next of kin, including Veer Nari claims
  • Promotion, ACR, and selection-board complaints
  • Discharge, dismissal, and show-cause challenges
  • Court-martial appeals and connected bail

Where the Tribunal’s order is to be tested, the next forum is a statutory appeal to the Supreme Court under sections 30 and 31 of the Act, or, in a proper case, a writ before the High Court of Delhi.

Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) Practice FAQ

Essential information on military service jurisprudence, disability pension broad-banding, court-martial appeals, and representation at the AFT Principal Bench New Delhi.

What matters fall under the jurisdiction of the AFT Principal Bench?

The Armed Forces Tribunal Principal Bench at New Delhi exercises statutory jurisdiction under the Armed Forces Tribunal Act, 2007, over service conditions, promotions, Annual Confidential Report (ACR) disputes, pensions, summary and general court-martial appeals, and dismissal challenges for Army, Navy, and Air Force personnel.

How is military disability broad-banding determined?

Under Supreme Court precedents in Dharamvir Singh (2013) and Ram Avtar (2014), disabilities assessed between 20% and 49% are legally rounded off (broad-banded) to 50%, between 50% and 75% to 75%, and 76% to 100% to 100%, with retroactive arrears where statutory conditions are met.
